On 8th April 2010, Steve, my friend given keynote address about iPhone Operating System i.e OS 4, much lagging features of iPhone OS 3 will now be eliminated in OS 4. iPhone users & application developer can enjoy value added applications with 1500 new application protocol interfaces!
Some landmark new features expected in OS 4
Multitasking:
*Work only on 3GS, while working on one application you can switch between 7 other applications, the event of last application stays on...even when you switch.
*Background audio - Allows your app to play audio continuously. So customers can listen to your app while they surf the web, play games, and more.
*Voice over IP - Your VoIP apps can now be even better. Users can now receive VoIP calls and have conversations while using another app. Your users can even receive calls when their phones are locked in their pocket.
*Background location - Navigation apps can now continue to guide users who are listening to their iPods, or using other apps. iPhone OS 4 also provides a new and battery efficient way to monitor location when users move between cell towers. This is a great way for your social networking apps to keep track of users and their friends' locations.
*Push notifications - Receive alerts from your remote servers even when your app isn't running.
*Local notifications - Your app can now alert users of scheduled events and alarms in the background, no servers required.
*Task finishing - If your app is in mid-task when your customer leaves it, the app can now keep running to finish the task.
*Fast app switching - This will allow users to leave your app and come right back to where they were when they left - no more having to reload the app.
Folders:
It was difficult to categorize applications for easy access, with Folder option now you can have 2160 iPhone applications and create folders to manage your applications.
Better e-mail:
Unified Inbox, Threading, Attachments opening by third party applications.
iBooks:
Much awaited tool to manage books in iPhone and organize in easy methods, by author, title or genre
iAd:
Advertisement tool for placing banners inside apps, this will be useful for free application developers.
Quick Look:
Previews of documents, like attachments in Mail.

Data Protection, Wireless App Distribution, SSL VPN Support, Mobile Device Management, Photo Library Access, In-App SMS, Calendar Access, Video playback & Capture, & Map Kit Improvements. With all above features, iPhone will become more interesting as it fills almost all of the missing, since iPhone introduced. 3GS and iPad will rule the Gadget market once again for another 2 years!
